LTHP Dabbles! My very first #EOTD Post!

Trying new things is always exciting...

Exciting and unnerving! I've been working up the courage to post this for a while.... For some months now I had been toying with the idea of featuring more than just nails on LTHP. Now, I know this blog is called Let them have Polish and all but... I'm a girl, and this girl also loves make-up! Make-up and I had a little fight and we stopped talking for a while but that has changed now. I was intimidated by make-up and color but blogging and being exposed to so many talented ladies left me wanting to give make-up a second chance!
With the encouragement of some lovely ladies in my beauty blog networking groups I started playing with my eye make-up and taking pictures. I'm not great at make-up but that being said... Remember when I first started blogging? I had no idea what I was doing then either so I'm hoping with time and practice my make-up skills will improve as well as my picture taking. Just like I did with my nails. So... Yeah! Here's my first Eye of the day(s) post!
These are all looks that were done early in the morning right before work. I've been thinking of calling this little experiment " Make-up for the working girl". These are VERY basic looks. I always see AMAZING stuff from makeup gurus like Vintage or Tacky, Nikkietutorials and my awesome friend Miss Phyrra so I figured I could feature some "basic" make up for those of us who are still learning :D...

I will go ahead and apologize for the blurr in quite a few of these pictures. I'm still getting the hang of photographing my face. Second lame excuse: I'm taking these pics in the morning right before I leave for work so I'm kind of in a rush lol. I did the pictures in the post in "chronological" order and towards the end of the post the pictures become a bit more clear. I really hope you guys like this post. This was a lot of fun to work on and adding new features to LTHP keeps it fun for me :D! I might start posting full face shots soon... Not quite all comfy with that yet.
I don't really have the time to take notes in the morning of what I am using and where I am placing it but these looks are SO very simple. I don't use high end make up. For the most part I use drugstore make-up. I'm really looking forward to placing some indie orders. I do not use a special primer for my eye shadow (yet). I've been using my Reviva Labs make-up primer on my lid and it seems to work great.

Pink and Coral Look
Upper Lid:
Milani Baked shadow in Golden Touch and Copper Excess
L'oreal HIP Shadow Duo in Flare (Orange shadow)
Wet 'n' Wild Comfort Zone Palette (Left side crease color)

Lower Lid:
L'oreal HIP Duo in Flare (Orange shadow)
NYX Triple Palette Shadow in Beanie

Eye liner: HIP Black Pencil
Eyebrow: Milani Brow Tint Felt Tip Pen in Deep Brown
Mascara: Maybelline The Colossal Volume Express

Soft Purple and Blue look
Upper Lid
Wet 'n' Wild I'm Feelin' Retro shadow palette. For this look I used the colors as they are labeled on the palette.

Lower Lid
Wet 'n' Wild Petal Pusher Palette (Left side definer shadow)

Upper lid liner: Wet 'n' Wild Black Gel Liner
Lower Waterline liner: L'oreal HIP Navy Blue Pencil
Mascara: Upper Maybelline Colossal, lower Reviva Hypoallergenic Mascara.
Brows: Milani Felt Tip Brow Pen.

Green Gaze Look

Upper Lid:
Wet 'n' Wild I Dream of Greenie palette (Browbone color and eye lid color)
Wet 'n' Wild Comfort Zone palette (Right side eyelid color)

Lower Lid:
Wet 'n' Wild I Dream of Greenie palette (Crease color)

Eye liner: HIP Black Pencil
Eyebrow: Milani Brow Tint Felt Tip Pen in Deep Brown
Mascara: Upper Maybelline The Colossal Volume Express, Lower Reviva Hypo Mascara.

Smokey eye with a pop of color look.

Upper Lid:
Wet 'n' Wild Silent Treatment palette used as directed.
Maybelline Copper Craze

Lower Lid:
L'oreal HIP Duo in Showy (Metallic Teal shade)

Eye liner: HIP Black Pencil
Eyebrow: Milani Brow Tint Felt Tip Pen in Deep Brown
Mascara: Maybelline The Colossal Volume Express, Lower Reviva Hypo Mascara

Pink, Purple and Blue Look
This was a favorite look of mine for this week.

Upper Lid:
NYX Triple Palette in Beanie
L'oreal HIP Shadow Duo in Reckless

Lower Lid:
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk as a base.
Wet 'n' Wild I'm Feelin Retro palette Crease and Eyelid colors.

Eye liner: Upper Wet 'n' Wild Black Gel Liner, Lower HIP Navy Blue pencil
Eyebrow: Milani Brow Tint Felt Tip Pen in Deep Brown
Mascara: Maybelline The Colossal Volume Express

I think some of my favorite eye looks have been in this color combination. I find that when my eyes have been done up in Pinks, Purples and Corals they pop more.

Golden Candle lit Look
This was another look I really loved. I love how simple it is, and yet it is so very flattering. I read somewhere that Golden/ Coppery lit looks like this are winners because they give you a healthy candle lit glow. I kept it very low key this day.

Upper Lid:
Revlon Colorstay Shadow Quad in Neutral Khakis
Maybelline Golden Halo

Lower Lid:
Maybelline Golden Halo
Revlon Neutral Khakis Definer color

Eye liner: Upper L'oreal Intense Liquid Pencil Liner in Brown
Eyebrow: Milani Brow Tint Felt Tip Pen in Deep Brown
Mascara: Maybelline The Colossal Volume Express, Lower Reviva Hypo Mascara

I really enjoyed this look. This is perfect for those lazy days!
I'm sorry I did not take notes of what I used where but as you can see these looks are VERY basic. As I said above: This is my work make-up. If I can do these, anyone can do these :D. I don't use fancy brushes, just a little set I have from EcoTools which gets the job done good enough for me. I realize now just how much I missed playing with makeup. I was intimidated by make-up, I realize now how silly that sounds.

I really hope you guys enjoyed this post! I had a lot of fun putting it together and working on these looks. How lucky am I that my work is flexible about nails and make-up :D!? The perks of working on the beach....

Thank you for stopping by and... Um... Be gentle? loool!

  6. Gorgeous!! The Look down shot of the Smokey
Eye with a pop of color...WOW! You have beautiful eyes! They are like jewels and perfect for this type of posting. Very cool!

  7. I LOVE THEM ALL!! You have gorgeous brows and eyes!

  8. I think they look fantastic! I've always thought posting an "EOTD" would be terrifying indeed...I'd worry about my brows! If I can offer one tiny bit of criticism (if you can call it that)...as much as I LOOOVE playing with my shadows and am not the least bit afraid of out-there nail polishes in my laid-back-but-still-corporate job, I would never really wear anything as vivid/heavy/bold as these looks to work. Just wanted to throw that out there in case I'm not the only one for whom these looks really can't be considered "working" looks. That aside, mass kudos for the gorgeous color combos and extra props for using drugstore products!

  9. Awesome! You were one of the bloggers that really pulled me into the world of beauty blogs, and I love seeing you branch out, especially to more things that I love. If I'm going to spend time on my makeup it is always on my eyes, and I've been trying to branch out to more bright colors beyond my pinks and oranges. You've given me lots of ideas. How well do each of these brands wear through a work day? I have some brands that will stay on 16 hours without creasing and others that don't make it to lunch. More please!?!

  10. They all look amazing ! My favorite is the one with the copper in the inner corner and the teal under. GOOD JOB !

  11. I've actually found the Wet n Wild and Revlon shadows to wear ridiculously well on me. I get no creasing and by the end of the night my face still looks like it did in the morning. I really love those Two brands as far as drugstore makeup goes.

  12. Oh I know these are out there for the typical work day. Lucky for me I work on the beach, on an island in Florda. My employer actualy encourages me to have fun with my clothes and make-up because of where we are located. Gotta sell them beach side CONDOS!! LOOOOL

  14. Wow, you have really gorgeous eyes!! I am soooo intimidated by makeup. I would love to be able to do stuff like this but I don't know the first thing to do! I went into Sephora for the first time ever yesterday and I left quite frightened, lol. I had no clue where to start. I had to go to Target to comfort myself and look at products I understood, hahaha! :)

  20. These are very pretty but waaay to drastic for most work places.

  21. Good thing I work at the beach huh? I'd be bored to death if I had to do plain makeup everyday.

  22. Gorgeous eye looks. If only my eyes could handle color like that, dang it! ha. I can't even wear anything but mascara on my lower lid because my eyes squint when I smile. And yes, I smile a lot when I'm working.

  23. These looks are gorgeous. I would totally use the candle light glow for work and the rest for nights out. I wish I could apply make up like you and that my eyes would allow me too. Mine are so small and round. Keep posting more of these make-up entries. :-)

  24. Oh my, you have such beautiful eyes - and your brows...!! Jealous much (well, yes!) I always wear something similar to the golden look, both on the job and out on the town.
I always want to do the sparkly, crazy eyes for a night out, but I always just end up with the golden solution ;(
Must be cool to play with all those colours at work :) Thank you for the inspiration :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Gorgeous! I wish I had the time and patience for this.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh thank you! Anyone can play with color! It's just a matter of finding what works with your eye shape. What I did is I found girls on youtube with similar shaped eyes like mine and I started watching their tutorials and experimenting from there.

  27. IT's pretty awesome that my job is flexible about it and almost encourages it. I tend to do a lot of golden, taupey, neutral eyes too. They are just classic!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love those!!!! I can never seem to get my eyes looking that good! The last pic is gorgeous!

  29. Sounds like a pretty sweet job!! R they hiring?!

  38. Your makeup looks fantastic!!! I am a woman who has never had an interest in wearing makeup until recently. So I have gone into the drugstore and looked at the products but I have no clue as to what goes were.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Can you provided a step by step process. On how to apply makeup

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hhhmmmm... The funny part is on my days off, when I should be playing and practicing my skills is when I get laziest and do the laziest makeup loool! I should start practicing on my days off and playing with color and placement.

    ReplyDelete
  41. These are great! I'm so glad you decided to do this :) I think my favorite of the looks is the "Smokey eye with a pop of color look". I really love the teal!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Cristina, I love these EOTD pics! I've started pinning some to my Pinterest board--I have green eyes also so I like being able to see how you've done your makeup. Awesome!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thank you!! I think the next series will be some more "muted" looks because I've been doing "lazy" makeup for the past few days lol.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Speaking of brows, have you tried the NYX Eyebrow Marker? If so, how does it compare with the Milani one? I use brow powder, but I like how this looks on you!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I've not tried it. I pretty much stick to my Milani pen because it really does work wondefully and I dont see a need to switch it up since I love how it looks so much.

    ReplyDelete
  46. well done for being brave - they all look awesome x

  47. These are nice. I'm also excited to see someone with eye color similar to mine. I have blue/grey with the yellow by the pupil. Only I have blonde lashes and brows. Green makes my eyes look green, so that's cool.

  49. I'm a few days behind, but these looks are amazing. You have gorgeous eyes and you're very good at decorating them :) (I'm intimidated by makeup as well, but I occasionally play around with it, but I don't think my results are near as successful)
