O.P.I DS Indulgence and DS Luxurious for Fall 2012

Hey it's Monday!!

I trust ya'll had a fantastic weekend! Mine was pretty mellow. The husband and I just hung out, I worked on some friendship bracelets and took it easy. As many of you know my health has been all over the place and as a result my polishing has slowed down practically to a stand-still. Luckily I have a lot of swatches sitting in my folders ready to go. This week I will be playing catch-up hopefully as next week will be FULL of doctors visits and even a small surgical procedure.
As a result of all this I will be featuring some lovely bloggers next week as I do not want the blog to go silent while I work on getting some answers and getting healthy. That's right! Guest posts on LTHP :D! You guys will be treated to some features by some of my favorite bloggers and some of my lovely gals from my #FLBeautyBloggers group.
Today I have some quick swatches of O.P.I's new DS Releases for Fall 2012. This year the DS releases are Two beautiful Gold-laced glassfleck shimmers; One Red based, One Orange based. These may not be holographic but they are still pretty spectacular.

O.P.I DS Indulgence is a deep Red, almost Raspberry toned glassfleck strongly laced with micro Golden shimmer. This color looks like flames. My photos do this no justice. The formula on this color is really good. I used Three coats to give my nails a really intense finish. This is really quite beautiful.

O.P.I DS Luxurious is a bright Tangerine Orange strongly laced with that same burning Golden micro-shimmer. Once again this is a spectacular shade. I really love this for Fall as well as the Holidays.  My camera totally freaked out at this particular shade of Orange. This color definitely glows. This color also has a great formula, I also used Three coats for Luxurious.
Now for my "thing" with these. I don't know if I can justify the price-jump on these. Are they spectacular colors? Absolutely, without a doubt. But what made these DS polishes so special was that they were holographic, and they had the diamond dust or whatever. Which I suppose they still have, but we are not buying these because of the diamond dust, now are we? We went crazy over these because they were holo. Now last year they released some complex glitters, this year they went to complex glassfleck. I don't know if these are fully worthy of that Silver Cap, beautiful as they are. I'm so torn...

  What are your thoughts?

  2. Oh no! So sorry to hear your health still isn't up to snuff :( I will definitely be thinking about you next week no matter how big or small your procedure is. Hopefully after you'll be able to get better. Also these are some beautiful polishes :)

  3. They are gorgeous colors but I have a really hard time justifying that price, as well!

  4. Hi C! I hope that you get to feeling better soon! Not having your emails to read every day is sad. Again, feel better soon...I miss you!

  5. I love, love both of these and so glad OPI did not try and pass off more glitters this time in DS release! I thought Lux would be a dup for ChG Riveting but find Lux has more rust to it and is more complex with gold in the glass flec over Riveting. I checked my Zoyas from summer 2012 Sunshine collection thinking Lux might be close to Kimmie - nope...and Indulgence is not close to Rievka from that same collection either as I thought it might be. These are the kinds of shades I get really enamored by. I adore a great cream formula, but gold and glass fleck into warm shades are always hits with me. I don't mind this time that OPI DS did not give us holo - actually I will be surprised if we ever see a DS holo again...I think those days are gone. If OPI does holo again, my guess it will be a special release and a price point that is higher than DS.

Hope you start to feel lots better soon.

As always your photos are stunning - and sure these lovelies were hard to capture.

  6. They're beautiful but I don't think the price jump is justifiable. They look like ordinary OPI polishes.

Wishing you all the best with your health struggles. <3

  7. Forgot to add that I will not pay the price point for DS if they are glitters - but when they are shades I really love and full of glass fleck like these 2, I will pay more for them. I don't have anywhere for 500 miles that sells DS so I went looking on line and found them for $9 each with free ship. Since lots of places sell regular OPI for $8.50, $9 was not bad I thought, esp with the free ship. I don't think the diamond dust is a big deal...it's a really cheap biproduct from tons of industrial processes that use diamond saws. That's where OPI got their diamond dust. It's only a gimmick to make folks think it's 'rich' due to diamond dust. If anything, use of diamond dust in polish can add a dusty look to colors so the dust needs to be bleached out. I am not sure if the addition of diamond dust adds to hardness of the polish or lasting power. Might, might not.

  10. I agree with you. They are very pretty, but are they that awesome? Take care as you're getting the medical help you need!

  11. How much are they selling these for? I too miss the holo of the old school DS series :(

  12. They're certainly beautiful, but I personally don't think they're worth the price. They're just not the same as the DS holos. :/

  13. okay so I just started recently reading your blog after stumbling upon it. I am 21 and the tricks I've learned here have been getting me a lot of attention at college as the girl with cute nails ;) so thank you for your inspiration! I already owned the millions of bottles of opi and sinful colors to do the trick anyway haha
I hope you feel better soon! I've been rockin double ear infections for two weeks now so I feel your polish standstill. I'm hoping sinful colors unicorn with opi alpine snow polkadots will give me enough pep to get me through my organic chem exam tomorrow. I was sad it wasn't Muffun Monday yesterday. I think it's so cute!

  16. I am sorry to hear you are facing health issues. I send you healing wishes for a quick and painless recovery! I hope you are able to rest and take the time you need to feel strong again.

I credited you on my blog again for the swatches that convinced me to try Sation.

I wish these were holo. For me in the past, an unusual color or holo justified the higher price tags. I read somewhere that the orange is a dupe for China Glaze Riveting.

For me to justify a $12.50 or higher price tag, the polish needs to be really special, discontinued or HTF, because I have most colors already, and the lower end brands are stepping up their game and keeping me entertained.

This is true no matter how much my polish budget is. I will pay more, but for me it has to be unique to my collection.
